hey guys i have a funny question it might be the wrong place to post it, but everybody who installed exchange had to pass through this..... im setting new exchange 2003 serveron 2003 r2 server when i do pre check of netdiag i get this error :=================================================== [WARNING] Cannot find a primary authoritative DNS server for the name 'xxx.xxxxx.xxx.xx.'. Modem diagnostics test . . . . . . : Passed IP Security test . . . . . . . . . : Skipped Note: run "netsh ipsec dynamic show /?" for more detailed information The command completed successfully--------------------------------------------------------- to add on the pre info - i setup the dns with its own ip at first. everything seems to be working good internal resolutios and external resolutions, i have in the dns the _msdcs.sitename containerthe dns passes its own test. i have setup a reverse lookup zone which do works. the funny thing is i still get this error. what went wrong and how do i fix this error msg...??? Follow what Vinod suggested, try running the netdiag /fix. If the problem persists, please check if your server have 2 LAN ports, if so and you use only one of them, try disable the unused one and try netdiag again.

This is very general error occurs when we have two NICs configured in server. But I am sure only one NIC needs to be registered with DNS and another may not require as we configure them for legacy application in most of the cases...So solution for this is On secondary NIC card, Go to TCP/IP properties -> Advanced -> DNS, here Uncheck "Register this connections addresses in DNS"and make sure check mark is the for the same in Primary NIC.CheersPITCHUKA
